David Brown
Vice President of Engineering & General Manager

David Brown brings to Neterion over 20 years of general, R&D, and engineering management expertise in both dynamic start-up environments and large organizations. David’s extended background includes engineering leadership in numerous businesses in the semiconductor, systems and software industries. David spent most of this decade in leadership roles at early-stage technology companies, LoBenn and MKC Networks. He has also held leadership roles over large engineering teams as General Manager at Cadence and CEO at West End Systems. He spent the bulk of his early career in semiconductor design and processing, moving up the engineering ranks during Mitel's growth phase, ultimately leading the entire IC development team.

Among his many accomplishments, David was instrumental in shaping, redefining and ensuring the continued success of LoBenn, Inc. by securing required funding and leading the efforts to gain ULC approval of its products for sale to GE. His efforts with early-stage start-ups Mitel Knowledge and MKC Networks led to a successful acquisition by NewHeights Software. And, he successfully grew revenues for the Canadian division of Cadence Design Services from $3M to $17M and grew margins from significantly negative to greater than 40%. In the R&D arena, David demonstrated highly-effective strategic planning capabilities by improving investment-return on new product development that resulted in pre-tax profits growing to over 20% of sales and he reduced the cost of production that resulted in gross margins increasing from less than 40% to more than 60%.

He is responsible for all Ottawa-based engineering functions including chip design, verification and firmware for existing and new products and serves as the General Manager of the Ottawa site. David received his education at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, Alberta with the Electronics Engineering Technologist Program.

Greg Scherer
Chief Technology Officer

Greg Scherer is the former CTO of Emulex and a technology industry veteran with almost thirty years of experience in engineering and business development. His diverse career includes contributions as both a technical team member and as a proven leader in bringing products to market. Formerly, Greg held the position of Sr. Vice President of Business Development at Emulex where he spent 24 years in a variety of increasingly important roles. His rich career background has enabled him to bridge the gap between technology specifications and emerging customer needs. During his tenure at Emulex he was instrumental in driving multiple leadership positions in Networking and Storage market segments.

For two decades Greg contributed to the development of ASIC, firmware, hardware and software, and worked closely with server and storage vendors to meet user demand in their rapidly expanding markets. He played a key collaborative role in defining many of the initial Fibre Channel specifications and later worked closely with technology partners (OS, switch and bridge vendors) to solidify the early technology and its specifications. He was also instrumental in the development and deployment of Emulex's LighPulse ?line of Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters, that launched the company into a multi-billion dollar market cap with over $400M in annual revenue.

Greg is the inventor of Emulex's ground breaking host software/driver architecture, called SLI, which has been deployed on millions of installed FC HBAs to date. This architecture allowed Emulex and its partners to maintain a single binary compatible driver that has spanned eight generations of FC HBAs.

In his role of Sr. Vice President of Business Development, Greg owned the technical investigation and diligence arm for Emulex's investment and acquisition strategy. This has given him a unique perspective on technology and teams, having evaluated well over 100 emerging stage companies over the past decade.
